Guides & Tips

Ask your auto glass company if the installer who will be replacing your windshield is certified. Here are some windshield replacement certifications to ask about. The (*) indicates the most common certifications:

AGRSS*

The Auto Glass Replacement Safety Standards Council offers an accreditation program for auto glass shops. Registered shops guarantee that they are compliant with the ANSI/AGRSS standard.

ASE

The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence offers a well-known certification for individual automotive repair technicians. To achieve ASE certification, a technician must pass a test and have a minimum of 2 years of experience in the specific automotive trade for which they are certified. Make sure your auto glass technician is ASE certified for auto glass rather than, for example, engine repair.

IGA

The Independent Glass Association offers membership to auto glass companies with less than 100 locations. The IGA also offers a certification program for individual technicians. In addition to passing a training course and demonstrating basic math skills, technicians are required to have a minimum of six months' auto glass installation experience and make at least 50% of their yearly income from auto glass replacement.

NGA*

The National Glass Association certifies individual auto glass installers. The NGA's Certified Auto Glass Technician Program has two levels: Certified Auto Glass Technician (CAGT) which requires testing plus at least 6 months experience in auto glass installation, and Certified Master Auto Glass Technician (CMAGT) which requires testing in addition to CAGT certification and 3 years' experience as an auto glass technician.
